This is one of the best books I’ve ever read.
No, really. I read professionally, and I struggled to think of a catchy one liner to sum this up, and the first and last thing I could think of was “this is one of the best books I’ve ever read.”
The characters feel real and complex and sympathetic and frustrating and so, so REAL. The world is so richly detailed, and so completely unlike what one thinks of when you think of stock Western fantasy. This is not fantasy–it is fantastical, imagination run completely riot in beautiful, terrible ways.
Only one thing crushes me: that this is book one, and the sequel isn’t out yet.
