Music Monday gets around, but I got the idea from Lauren over at Always Me .
I was going to post something completely different today, but ever since yesterday/last night/this morning, I’ve found myself looping this song, so I figured this is what needed posting:
So, I recently had a chat with an old friend about why exactly we’re all so obsessed with the 80s. I don’t know that we had any answers, though we certainly had about a bottle of gin between us. But they said something that stuck with me:
“It was charming,” they said. “Maybe the last time things were allowed to be charming, or earnest. Everything’s ironic now.”
Again…I don’t know if it’s true. But there’s something so stupidly honest and earnest (and yes, charming) about this song. Something you got a lot of in the 80s.
Any thoughts?
Well, I completely love the original–by Tommy James and the Shondells. And it IS very charming. I asked Geoffroi to make it for our band and I wrote lyrics about Lorien’s land of dreams. I generally dislike remakes of songs I loved. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkMFLUXTEwM I still have my old 45 of this :D.
